Win
A win bet is selecting a runner to finish 1st in a nominated race. Tote Win betting is available on all races covered by TABtouch while Fixed Odds Win betting is offered on the vast majority of Australian and International Thoroughbred, Harness and Greyhound races.
Place
A place bet is selecting a runner to finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd (subject to the place dividend policy) in a nominated race. Your selection may finish in any of these positions. Tote Place betting is available on all races covered by TABtouch while Fixed Odds Place betting is offered on the vast majority of Australian and International Thoroughbred, Harness and Greyhound races.
Scratchings, Refunds and Deductions
In the case of a scratching after ‘Final Field’ betting has opened, all Win and Place bets wagered upon the withdrawn runner will be refunded.
As a result of the withdrawn runner however, successful Fixed Odds bets, both Win and Place, placed prior to the scratching may be subject to deductions, meaning a revised payout may be applicable.
Deductions are based upon the Fixed Odds price of the scratched runner at the time it is withdrawn and will be in accordance with the Rules of Wagering 2005 Scale of Deduction Table.
Dead Heats
In the event of a dead heat, Win and/or Place bets are paid at half the face value of the full dividend where there are two dead heats, one third of the dividend for three dead heats and so on.
For Tote wagers the guaranteed minimum Win and Place return payable on a dead heat runner is $1.00, even in circumstances where a half or third of the face value of the full dividend is less than one dollar. For Fixed Odds wagers there is no guaranteed minimum Win and Place dividend on a dead heat runner.
Place Dividend Policy
The number of place dividends payable is dependent on the number of starters in the nominated race. As a general rule;
- If 8 or more starters – Tote and Fixed Odds pay 3 place dividends
- If 5 – 7 starters – Tote and Fixed Odds pay 2 place dividends
- If 4 or less starters – Place betting is not offered
Late scratchings do not affect the number of placings payable for Tote wagers (i.e. if a field is reduced from 8 to 7 runners due to a late scratching, 3 placings will remain payable) except in instances where the number of starters is reduced to less than 5. In such cases all Place bets are refunded.
For Fixed Odds wagers, the number of placings payableat the time the wager is struck will not change even in the event the field is reduced due to scratchings, however, deductions will apply.
As the number of placings payable may vary between Tote and Fixed Odds for the same race, pay indicators are displayed for reference.
Commission Rates
For Tote Win and Place pools combined with SuperTAB or operated on a WA standalone basis, commission rates of 14.50% and 14.25% respectively are applicable.
For nominated meetings where Tote Win and Place wagers are comingled into an international pool, the pool host’s commission rate structure and dividend calculation policy will apply.
